Structure & Construction

All xPod structures are predominantly manufactured from concrete, steel and traditional materials such as timber. Every material has varying durability attributes, but for all intents and purposes the structure has the same durability coefficient as a traditional brick & mortar building.
The main structure predominantly comprises steel and insulated concrete panels. Depending on the requirements and design detailing, the balance of materials may include aluminium, timber, dry partitioning and tile — essentially the same materials used in a traditional/rational structure.
All structures are available in two options: a suspended floor or a concrete raft foundation.
Four storeys using our engineered system. We are also able to plug our methodology into traditional structures, creating a hybrid where required.
No. Unlike a shipping container, xPod was designed from the outset as a habitable space, so it requires no retro-fitment or amendments to make it liveable.
Yes. The main structure is designed and signed off by an accredited structural engineer. Our concrete wall panels carry a South African Agrément Certification — an accredited testing body that has carried out stringent structural, fire, thermal and acoustic testing. All additional materials have their own respective attributes and are used accordingly.
No. Thanks to the design and construction methodology, we are able to address different terrains more easily than traditional building methods.

Customization & Design

Yes. All our structures are fully customizable within certain parameters of the engineered design. There isn't much that is unachievable.
Yes.
Yes. Our standard offering is metal roof sheeting / Chromadek, but we can accommodate other roofing materials such as aluminium and steel façade solutions.
Most lightweight roofing materials can be used.
Most types of surface-mounted cladding can be fixed to the structure.
Yes.
Yes — and it's preferable to integrate as much as possible during the design stages.
We can accommodate bespoke design; however, there is a charge for generating and manufacturing a custom/bespoke design.
We can adapt your design intent to suit the xPod technology within reason, for an additional fee.
Outside architectural practices are welcome to specify xPod. However, due to the design, manufacture and installation process, it is preferable for xPod to be custodians of the entire process.

Performance & Sustainability

Our structures are fully insulated. The concrete panels carry a South African Agrément Certification and have the same R-values as a double-skin brick wall. Roof insulation can be adapted to the occupant and environment. All structures are available with single and double glazing, and the floor can also be easily insulated if required.
Yes — both single and double glazing with either aluminium or uPVC frames.
Yes. All our structures are designed with both on-grid and off-grid electrical and water solutions in mind.

Systems & Services

We can supply our structures as a basic shell without plumbing and electrical, or tailor the electrical and plumbing to suit your requirements.

Expandability

Due to the engineering of our structures, it is challenging to extend or manipulate them. That said, we are able to review your requirements and present available solutions.
Although it isn't advisable, we can look at your existing structure and advise.

Mobility & Placement

The short answer is yes. Due to the construction methodology there may be some slight residual damage to components during dismantling, but this can be easily repaired. Notably, although our structures have many attributes of a temporary structure, they perform like permanent ones.

Pricing & Value

1. Drastically reduced construction time. 2. Consistency of build quality. 3. Savings in material costs through reduced waste and economy of scale. 4. No professional fees. 5. Drastic reduction in project-management time. 6. Integrated green technology. 7. Reduced carbon footprint.
Using our standard systems, the following is included: 1. Architectural/design fees of the structure. 2. Engineering fees. 3. Installation.

Process & Usage

After contact is made: 1. A brief is formulated by the client. 2. Once a design direction is agreed, a basic plan is submitted for approval. 3. Design detailing. 4. Submission of quotation. 5. Approval of quotation. 6. Manufacture of components. 7. Installation.
